Playable from the very first moment – with the revolutionary RR Janko® Keys – a kit for any instrument

Take the next step in the evolution of piano playing with the RR Janko® Keys. This kit is for anyone who wants to get started immediately with their own instrument: the RR Janko® Keys, entirely handcrafted from wood, combine innovative playing technique with the highest built quality. You’ll benefit from the unique, symmetrical key layout that makes playing in any key easier and takes your technique to a whole new level. You can order them in octave sections to fit the key range of your instrument, or order just one octave for testing.

General advantages of the Janko keyboard layout

The Janko keyboard is an alternative piano key layout that is isomorphic, meaning the keys are arranged in a regular pattern. As a result, intervals, chord shapes, and fingerings remain consistent across all keys. Similar to a guitar, where a major chord shape can be shifted left or right to transpose, the Janko layout allows you to play the same chord shape in any key without learning new positions, unlike a traditional piano.

The Janko layout establishes a clear relationship between the geometric spacing of the keys and the musical intervals between notes. Its symmetry aligns perfectly with music theory, making it an excellent tool for learning and understanding musical structures.

Additionally, standardized chord shapes and scale fingerings are a major benefit for muscle memory. Your fingers will quickly learn how for example a major or minor seventh chord feels, allowing you to play them effortlessly in any key.

Special advantages of our RR Janko® Keys

• The narrow 4-row arrangement of the RR Janko® Keys promotes an ergonomic hand position.s
• Unlike the original Janko keyboard, each key is fully accessible along its entire length, allowing fingers to remain in a natural extension at all times.
• Adjacent semitones are easily accessible without shifting fingers to higher or lower r
• The thumb can always be positioned below longer fingers and easily repositioned at any time.
• There is no need to reach down into a “gap” with longer fingers, a common issue on traditional keyboards.
• Our RR Janko® Keys are handcrafted entirely from wood, providing a natural and pleasant feel.

Features and advantages of the five‑seven layout

• Clear color arrangement in two blocks
• C–E in dark tones, F–H in light tones
• Easy octave recognition
• Reduced visual complexity, since color variation occurs only horizontally, not vertically
• Greater clarity, as colors change just once per octave
• Liberation from the strong focus on a single key (C major = white keys on the traditional keyboard); all keys are treated equally
• Increased freedom for improvisation and easier modulation between keys
• Retains the pattern recognition of the classical piano through the two color blocks: the three-key dark group represents C, D, E; the four-key light group represents F, G, A, H
• Allows pieces learned on the piano to be easily mapped onto this color layout and played at sight-reading level
